About this Event

We’d love to invite you and your team to take part in our upcoming Carbon Literacy Training for the Theatre Designers and Makers, taking place as part of the Society of British Theatre Designers Design Futures programme.

Co-hosted by Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network (ECCAN) and Edinburgh Performing Arts Development (EPAD), this is a free, accredited one-day, in-person workshop.

Date: Thursday, 22nd January

Location: Event Rooms, Festival Theatre, Edinburgh

Tickets & full details:

Our course is designed to help theatre makers, directors, producers, production managers, writers, designers, performers and those who work with them, build knowledge and confidence around sustainable practice—both in the studio and during production. It supports everyone in making informed choices and navigating the challenges of production meetings and design decisions.

You’ll leave the session with:

  • An accredited Carbon Literacy Project Certification
  • New tools for embedding climate awareness in your practice
  • A shared language for driving meaningful change across the creative sector

Who is it for?

This training is open to theatre-makers, performers, producers, designers, arts workers and freelancers in theatre or live performance, as well as students and early-career practitioners. No prior climate knowledge is required.

What to expect:

  • A one-day, interactive, in-person workshop
  • Discussion, reflection, and practical examples tailored to theatre contexts
  • Space to develop simple, realistic climate actions relevant to your own practice
  • Short preparation shared in advance, with brief follow-up required for certification

Accessibility:

We want this workshop to be accessible and welcoming to everyone. If you have any access requirements, please let us know when booking or get in touch in advance. Support for carers is available, and we’ll work with participants to ensure reasonable adjustments wherever possible. The Festival Theatre venue is fully accessible, with step-free access, lifts, and accessible toilets.

For access queries, please contact [email protected]

Please do share with colleagues and creative networks – the more voices involved, the stronger the impact we can have together.

We hope to see you there!
