Founded in 2017 by bassist and composer Elizabeth Obando and pianist and arranger Vashti Sivell, Calle Luna is a powerhouse in Melbourne’s Latin music scene, bringing together exceptional musicians from Cuba, Colombia, Australia, and Italy. The band delivers an electrifying fusion of salsa, timba, and cumbia, blending deep Afro-Cuban roots with contemporary Latin grooves.
Calle Luna’s dynamic sound is shaped by the explosive timba influence of Carlitos Way and the authentic Cuban rhythms of Yunior Madden, while Jethro Negrón anchors the rhythm section with precision, drive, and fire.
The band’s powerful brass section, featuring Josh Bennier and Declan Jones, delivers bold and dynamic horn lines that define Calle Luna’s signature sound.
In 2024, Calle Luna welcomed lead singer Alessia Licitra, whose powerful and expressive voice brings a fresh energy and commanding stage presence to the band.
Beyond the dance floor, Calle Luna showcases original compositions by Elizabeth Obando, alongside sophisticated arrangements by Vashti Sivell, creating music that not only moves the body but also connects deeply with audiences.
Renowned for their high-energy live performances, dancers can expect an immersive journey through both slow and fast salsa, alongside a vibrant blend of Cuban timba, New York–style salsa, Puerto Rican salsa, and other Afro-Latin influences, all delivered with passion, precision, and irresistible groove.
