About this Event
Join Love the Bulb for a special gathering at the Albany Bulb, where Vincent Medina and Louis Trevino — co-founders of mak-'amham/Cafe Ohlone and the mak-warép Ohlone Land Conservance and and leaders of UC Berkeley’s innovative 'ottoy Initiative — will cover Ohlone culture, past and present. The will share about the deep significance of the creeks, wetlands, and Bay waters that have sustained Ohlone people and culture for thousands of years.
Through stories, activities, and conversation, Vincent and Louis bring Ohlone history and culture to life in an engaging, accessible way for all ages. This talk will explore how the creeks flowing to the Bay and the Bay itself were — and remain — central to Ohlone life, identity, and practice.
Tea and brownies will be served.
About the Speakers:
Vincent Medina and Louis Trevino — co-founders of mak-'amham / Cafe Ohlone and leaders of the 'ottoy Initiative are two Ohlone people focused on sustaining their traditional Ohlone culture. Proud of their Indigenous identities, they are leaders in the ongoing restoration of their languages: Chochenyo from the East Bay (Vincent) and Rumsen from the Carmel Valley (Louis).
Love the Bulb is a community-based organization that builds community and supports art and nature by celebrating and protecting a unique outdoor space in Albany for the human imagination. We present playful art, environmental education and stewardship events at the Albany Bulb that celebrate its unique place in the Bay Area art and natural ecosystems. We are dedicated to preserving and enhancing the creative spirit of the Bulb as an inclusive, diverse and participatory public commons – artistic, cultural, and environmental – through stewardship, programming, and advocacy.
