Build A Bluebird House with QBC & DIYD

All DIYD workshops have Pay What You Can ticket options:

The "Full Cost" Ticket for this workshop is $15. There are several options for reduced cost tickets, see below:

If the Full Cost Ticket is financially comfortable for you, we ask that you purchase this ticket to help DIYD offset the costs of workshop expenses.

If the Full Cost Ticket is a stretch for you at this time, choose a lower cost ticket that suits your financial capacity. Choose the “Pay What You Can” option to purchase a ticket for as low as $1.

If you would like to make a donation beyond the ticket cost, use the "Pay What You Can" option to make a donation of any amount. (And thank you!)

DIYD is thrilled to partner with Queer Birders of Cincinnati to host a Bluebird House-building workshop! Not a big DIYer? Never used a power tool? Not to worry, all of our Bluebird houses will be pre-cut, we'll teach you how to use a few tools, and your job will be to assemble your bluebird house by clamping it, gluing it, and nailing it together with a battery-powered nail gun. Mandatory safety and tool demos lead by DIYD instructor Dani Fraley will take place every 30 minutes starting at 10AM.

Please plan to arrive at one of the following times to join a safety demonstration and bluebird info slideshow and then we'll send you on your way to build your own bluebird house to take home:

• Arrive at 9:50AM for the 10AM safety demo + bluebird info
• Arrive at 10:20AM for the 10:30AM safety demo + bluebird info
• Arrive at 10:50AM for the 11AM safety demo + bluebird info
• Arrive at 11:20AM for the 11:30AM safety demo + bluebird info
• Arrive at 11:50AM for the 12PM safety demo + bluebird info (This is the last demo)
• Clean-up and load out takes place by 1PM.

Why build a bluebird house?

Over the past few decades, bluebird boxes have helped recover eastern as well as western and mountain bluebirds recover from a declining population. Bluebirds are considered cavity nesters and today, natural cavities have become fewer and fathers between. Thus, bluebirds have increasingly relied on human-made homes. More information regarding placing, monitoring, and cleaning your bluebird boxes will be shared during the workshop 🏡

Can I bring my child?

Young adults ages of 16-18 can attend and participate fully in the workshop with supervision of a guardian and with a signed parental consent form. Children between the ages of 12-16 can assist with bluebird house building inside the training center with a signed parental consent form and guardian supervision at all times, and can watch tool demonstrations, but will not be premitted to use power tools. Children under the age of 12 can attend and help decorate a bluebird house, but will be required to remain outside the main training center at all times, cannot use any power tools, and must be supervised at all times.

Queer Birders of Cincinnati (QBC) is safe and inclusive space for LGBTQIA2S+ people to spend time outdoors, find intentional community, and experience the joy of birding. About the teacher:

Dani Fraley is a professional woodworker that specializes in furniture, millwork, and finish carpentry. She has a degree from DAAP, and worked as a designer for several years before transitioning into carpentry in 2018. She now has her own small business and a workshop in Camp Washington.

Dani knows how rewarding it is to work with your hands to make something, and believes it should be accessible to everyone. She enjoys helping others grow their confidence and skills, while emphasizing safety and positivity.

About Do It Yourself Darlin Workshops:

Do It Yourself Darlin (DIYD) hosts educational, hands-on home repair workshops for new and veteran homeowners, renters, and everyone in between. The program aims to empower anyone and everyone to feel comfortable and confident understanding the components that make up a house while learning home repair and tool use skills along the way. All of DIYD‘s workshops are geared toward beginners, pay-what-you-can, taught by local Cincinnati craftspeople, and open to everyone ages 16 and up.

DIYD is a program of the non-profit CDC Price Hill Will. DIYD’s programming is made possible through grant funding, sponsorships, donations, and workshop ticket sales.
