About this Event
Red Thread Productions, a new theatre company coming onto the scene, has announced it will be having its debut performance: My Closing Statement, written and performed by Amber Hicks.
Inspired by the chat show format ‘a night with…’ exploring themes of corruption and sexism within the workplace, My Closing Statement follows Detective Jones as she recounts the case that destroyed her career. A single armchair and her office reconstruction bridge the gap between past as present as Jones invites the audience to hear her side of the story through reenactment and explanation. A young writer who is surrounded by a village who thinks her way of thinking is too forward commits suicide, revealing bruises, inconsistencies, and a note that she clearly did not write – all resulting in three interviews that could make or break the case. With the possibility of a promotion to be the new DCI on the cards for Detective Jones, she is accused of fabricating evidence for this suicide-turned-M**der investigation to look more impressive than it is. After she uncovers a truth reaching into her own department, Jones must walk the fine line between reputation and morality.
The audience are invited to follow along with the case as they are given a mock-up of the case file. Through shifting timelines, interviews, and audience involvement, My Closing Statement is a one-woman show that asks: when corruption defines the truth, what would you have done?
