Since its beginnings for Piano Day in March 2018, Brudenell Piano Sessions has grown into a consistently captivating, regular part of Leeds’ thriving music scene. Celebrating the wide variety of music composed for and performed on the piano, each show offers curious music fans an opportunity to make new musical discoveries; experience a range of genres and musical styles combined together in one lineup; to challenge perceptions about what, where and how certain forms of music can be encountered - all in a relaxed, friendly, engaging and inviting atmosphere.Founded by Leeds-based pianist & composer Simeon Walker, these live music events provide opportunities for young and emerging piano-based artists, performers and composers from across the musical spectrum to perform new, original music alongside other established artists, to a captive, supportive and encouraging audience of dedicated music lovers. Born out of Brudenell Social Club - one of the UK’s most iconic grassroots music venues - BPS is a celebration of good music, good people and good times, gathered around the piano. It’s piano music, for everyone.
We are delighted to be collaborating with The Piano Trail Festival to bring you three consecutive Sunday lunchtime BPS events, in celebration of the piano, whilst The Leeds International Piano Competition runs concurrently alongside. These captivating events take place in the breathtaking Pianodrome - a circular amphitheatre made entirely of up-cycled pianos - which is taking residence in the reverberant surroundings of Leeds City Museum, in the heart of the city centre.
For the final event of the series, we are delighted to showcase two artists making significant waves in their respective musical genres. With a distinctive combination of piano melodies and evocative synths, pianist-composer Belle Chen's world straddles acoustic and electronic realms. Her music is Influenced by travel and people as much as her classical training; exciting, biting electronica added to the lush melodies of post-classical pianism. Hannah Rowe is a young singer who oozes authenticity and warmth, and whose emotional range transcends generations; the young singer offers all listeners a sense of reflection within her authentic lyricism and rich, jazz-infused sound.
Brudenell Piano Sessions is a Pay What You Can event. All are welcome, however we recommend reserving a space via the booking link to avoid disappointment. Monetary donations and contributions can be made on the day via card payment, in cash, or at any point before, during and after the event via the QR-code payment link here. All takings are split equally between the artists performing and reinvesting in the event. Thank you for your support.
