Drypoint etching is a printing process where lines or marks are scratched or inscribed into a surface which is then printed from. It is usually by the intaglio method, where the incisions are filled with ink and printed from, rather than the relief method which prints from the surface. On this taster session you will make a series of prints using the drypoint technique. You will learn how to use drypoint etching tools on plastic and aluminium sheets, oil based inks and our two etching printing presses in the workshop. At the end of the session you will have a series of similar, but increasingly more complex, prints. What experience do I need?
This workshop is suitable for an absolute beginner or someone who has some previous experience but would like a refresher of the process.
What will I make?
You will make a series of progressively different prints using A6 printing plates, printed onto A5 paper. Expect to come away with an edition of up to 10 drypoint prints.
Who is my tutor?
