About this Event

Walk Starts: London Bridge - open area next to / to the left of the Shangri-La Hotel, 31 St Thomas Street, London SE1 9QU (it is useful to look at Google Streetview before tarvelling to see what this looks like)

Walk ends: London Bridge, St. Thomas' Street

Halfway stop on Bermondsey Street for baby change. At this time you will be given 40 minutes to change baby at your own pace and get something to eat and drink at one of the many outlets around the area before meeting the guide again.

This walk has been written and is guided by City of London guide and co-author of 'Women from Hackney's History', Sue Doe.

Walk description:

In the shadow of the Shard, Bermondsey has a rich history. Not least in food.

Once known as London’s Larder, it is now home to Borough Market and the offshoots in Maltby Street and surrounds.

Here's what you'll see and hear about on this walk...

- The original St Thomas’s Hospital and its Operating Theatre museum.

- The gardens of Guy’s Hospital, which include memorials to the Old London Bridge and a famous poet.

- 'The Leathermarket' – a reminder of the time when a third of all leather came from Bermondsey

- A grisly Victorian M**der.

- The tomb of Mr Rolls of Rolls Royce fame.

- Where Bermondsey Abbey once stood, and hear the story of it's two Queens.

- The settlement which aimed to make use of women’s ‘Time and Talents’.

- Where you could legally sell stolen goods.

- The Fashion and Design Museum, and home of Zandra Rhodes.

- ...and more...

Winner of 'Best Parent Activity' at the 'Bablands Awards', 'Bring Your Baby' Guided London Walks are sensitively devised to suit parents and carers of even the tiniest babies to enjoy London’s history. We can stop whenever you like to feed and change - without the stress of feeling you are holding up the group. Because every participant brings their baby, patience and baby’s needs are at the forefront of each walk.

Important notes about booking:

Please feel free to invite baby-free friends.

If on the day of the walk we are forecast to have very bad weather, I may have to postpone the walk. If it's a bit of light rain we will cope!

Every walk follows the usual health and safety guidelines, such as crossing at traffic lights where possible and having hazards pointed out to you at the start and along the route.

There may be times we have to stand in direct sunlight (although I will always choose shade where possible). Please bring all the necessary sun protection for yourself and your child.

It is recommended you bring appropriate drinks and snacks for the duration of the walk, especially if the walk takes place at lunchtime.

I will contact you with booking confirmation after you book. I will supply my mobile number in case of emergencies or in case you are running late. I will also ask you to provide me with a mobile number so you can be contacted for the purposes of the walk, but this is *not for marketing purposes*. Please note that if you are more than a few minutes late I may ask you to catch up with us.

If for any reason Bring Your Baby Ltd are forced to cancel or postpone an event (for example in the case of illness or extreme weather conditions), you are within your rights to request a refund, though we will always suggest an alternative date for you to attend.

- Refunds or requests to move to a future event or date must be requested within 24 hours of the event commencing so that we can try to refill the space in adequate time. I also have to honour to pay my guide within this time frame.
