1 Mile Fun Run

Info: Bridging the Gap 1‑Mile Fun Run — Detroit Riverfront, August 1, 2026

Step into the rhythm of Detroit’s heartbeat as Bridging the Gap brings communities together for a one‑mile celebration of movement, music, and unity along the sparkling riverfront. Founded by Dr. T. Lynn Young in May 2015, this visionary organization was born from the idea that running can connect people across neighborhoods — inviting suburban joggers and city walkers alike to lace up, laugh, and stride side‑by‑side through the Motor City’s most scenic stretch.

This isn’t just a run — it’s a groove in motion, where every footstep keeps time with Detroit’s soulful spirit. Whether you’re sprinting, strolling, or dancing your way to the finish line, you’ll feel the beat of community pride echoing through every mile.

🕑: 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Joining her are several of Detroit’s finest line dance instructors, leading the crowd through all the latest favorites — Boots on the Ground, the Tamia Hustle, and so much more. Whether you’re a seasoned stepper or brand‑new to the groove, this event is all about fun, rhythm, and community.

Come ready to dance, laugh, and celebrate Detroit style — one step, one slide, and one hustle at a time.

Opening Remarks and Start of Race
Host: Dr T. Lynn Young

Info: Founded in May 2015 by Dr. T. Lynn Young, Bridging the Gap was born from a simple but powerful vision: to bring communities together through movement, unity, and shared purpose. What began as an invitation for suburban joggers and Detroit walkers to meet on common ground has grown into a vibrant tradition that celebrates health, connection, and the spirit of the city.

As we gather along the beautiful Detroit Riverfront for this 1‑Mile Fun Run and Line Dance Event, Dr. Young welcomes every participant — runners, walkers, dancers, families, and supporters — to step into the rhythm of community and experience what it truly means to bridge the gap.
