GAYAPRIL AT JOHN JAY PRESENTS: BRIDGING GENERATIONS: A QUEER FILM SERIES & TALKBACK

Join us for a FREE film screening honoring queer history and culture, presented by John Jay College of Criminal Justice’s African Studies Department and LGBTQ+ Resource Center!

Following the screening, stay for a dynamic talkback with GLAAD alum, director, actor, and producer Brandon C. Smith, along with special guest participants. Refreshments will be provided.

Don’t miss this inspiring and thought-provoking event celebrating the richness of queer storytelling through film!


Films:

"Before They Tell Our Stories"
A short documentary series exploring the coming-out stories of university students and faculty at Medgar Evers College. Directed by Brandon C. Smith.

"Bill & Robert"
A story of love and joy about two Black men falling in love in 1967, based on true events. Directed by Kamaria J. Hodge and produced by Brandon C. Smith.

Featuring: Brandon C. Smith

Brandon C. Smith is a NYC-based actor, musician, filmmaker, creative producer, and organizer whose work thrives at the intersection of art and social justice. Deeply committed to amplifying marginalized voices, his creative vision centers on storytelling that spark transformative conversations and fosters community engagement.

In 2018, Brandon founded Golden Boi Productions, a queer and Black-owned production company dedicated to elevating BIPOC and LGBTQ+ narratives through films, media, and public programming. His latest film, Bill & Robert, has streamed on Amazon Prime and Here TV and is currently part of the development phase for the CUNY Queer Histories Project.

Brandon is also the co-founder of the Queer Voices NYC Film Festival, a non-profit organization that empowers LGBTQIA+ filmmakers of color by providing a platform to showcase their talent, celebrate their stories, and connect with opportunities for professional development in film and media.
