BODY OF PEOPLE (BOP) JAZZ THEATRE COMPANY
BOP was founded in 1996 by Dollie Henry MBE, who is the Creative Director and Choreographer. In 1999, the company’s vision expanded through a partnership with jazz trumpeter and composer Paul Jenkins who is the Musical Director and Composer. BOP is a unique creative union between dance and live jazz instrumentation.
Together, Henry and Jenkins have spent almost three decades shaping the jazz landscape both in the UK and internationally. Rooted in rich artistry and theatre traditions, the company is dedicated to the realisation of jazz as a formidable and expressive theatrical form. Through their distinctive narrative style, BOP continues to champion the heritage of jazz while pushing the boundaries of contemporary creative performance. Website: www.bop.org.uk | IG: @bopjazzuk
Daughters of Eve
Daughters of Eve is a profound jazz-theatre work that explores the enduring legacy of the feminine spirit. Staged and choreographed by Dollie Henry MBE, the piece serves as a bridge between the ancient wisdom of the past and the intuitive power of the present day, guided by the original musical compositions of Paul Jenkins. The choreography blends expressive, soulful movement with compelling storytelling.
Clap Your Hands
A signature staple of the BOP repertoire, Liquid Spirit is a high-octane celebration of the technical prowess and infectious energy that defines the BOP Jazz Theatre Company. Set to the soul-stirring, Grammy-winning tones of international jazz artist Gregory Porter, this piece marries the sophistication of authentic jazz dance with the raw, rhythmic power of gospel roots.
The dancers embody the uplifting spirit of the music. This performance is an open invitation to the audience, taking us all "to church" in a communal display of joy, rhythm, and light.
