Bookface Sip & Swap with Jenni Fagan
Join us at 9.30am on Sunday 12 April at Glaschu for a morning of bookish chat with award-winning Scottish novelist and poet Jenni Fagan, celebrating her fifth novel, The Delusions.
Jenni Fagan is an incredible talent and one of the most distinctive literary voices writing today. She won the Gordon Burn Prize for her memoir Ootlin, which was also longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction. Her debut novel, The Panopticon, led to her being named a Granta Best Young British Novelist. Her second novel, The Sunlight Pilgrims, earned her Scottish Author of the Year.
Across her career she has been listed for the Encore Award, the James Tait Black Memorial Prizes, the Desmond Elliott Prize, the Sunday Times Short Story Award and the Pushcart Prize. She is a Doctor of Philosophy, a member of Liberty and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
The Panopticon saw a sell-out run with the National Theatre of Scotland. She’s adapting it for film — which she’ll write and direct herself. She completed her PhD at University of Edinburgh in 2020 and Jenni has worked in prisons, hospitals, neo-natal units, with blind and visually impaired writers
Her new novel, The Delusions, is set in Arrivals — a bureaucratic afterlife where the newly dead must extract their delusions and answer HR’s questions truthfully. Edi, who has spent forty-seven years processing souls, faces a disciplinary after an “incident” at work. As rumours spread that humans may become a banned race and Earth repossessed, Edi breaks protocol for one reason: she hopes to see her son again at the doors of eternity.
