About this Event

In celebration of Black History Month, join the Block Club Book Club for a conversation with Tonika Johnson and Maria Krysan, authors of Don't Go: Stories of Segregation and How to Disrupt It, and Chicago's urban historian Shermann "Dilla" Thomas, hosted by WCIU's Brandon Pope.

Don't Go is a powerful reminder that segregation isn't just about points on a map. This collection of intimate stories and evocative photos uncovers the hidden influence of both subtle and overt "don't go" messages and the segregation they perpetuate in Chicago. Told by everyday people to Johnson and Krysan - a Black artist and a White academic who met through their shared passion for anti-segregation work - the stories paint a rich picture of life in a segregated city.

Tickets include:

  • Light bites from Bronzeville Winery
  • A signed copy of Don't Go *
  • Two hours of challenging your preconceptions and disrupting segregation!

Other event details:

  • There will be a cash bar including featured beers from Moor's Brewing Co., Chicago's Black-owned brewery!
  • Doors open at 6:00pm, programming begins at 6:30pm
  • Bronzeville Winery is closed for dinner service on the evening of the event
