About this Event
The class will begin with a demonstration and cultural history of block printing from an experienced designer before printing your own "Organic Cotton" tote bag.
The outcome of the session is very much open to interpretation, you can create your own patterns and prints using the various blocks. Let the blocks guide you! Indian Masala Chai and Indian snacks will be provided throughout so you can have the whole experience of Indian crafts.
Outline of the Workshop
Wood block printing is a technique where hand-carved wooden blocks are stamped onto paper to create repeat patterns. The workshop will be in English and would take place at the home of the artist in Kastanienallee, Mitte. Exact address would be shared upon booking.
WELCOME & INTRODUCTION (15 min)
Step into a private home studio in Mitte and settle in with a cup of freshly brewed masala chai. Learn about the rich history of block printing and its role in Indian textile traditions.
PRINTING BASICS & GUIDED PRACTISE (45 min)
Work with hand-carved wooden blocks and richly pigmented inks, learning how to place patterns and apply ink correctly. Print on fabric swatches while engaging in conversations and sharing design ideas with fellow guests.
CREATE YOUR OWN TOTE BAGSS (75 min)
Apply your new skills to print a custom-designed tote bag. Experiment with layering patterns and colors under expert guidance, creating a one-of-a-kind piece to take home.

As a small studio, we put a lot of care into prepping blocks and dyes for every participant. If your plans change, we can offer a refund or reschedule your spot with at least 7 days' notice via email. Because our class sizes are strictly limited, we cannot provide refunds or make-up sessions for late cancellations. However, you are always welcome to send a friend in your place if you can't make it!
