About this Event
Overview
Join NHS South East London and Impact on Urban Health for an in-person workshop that brings together people with lived experience, community leaders, and professionals to co-create practical, funded solutions to improve mental healthcare for Black communities across southeast London.
Building on our 2025 programme addressing Black maternal health inequalities, we are now focusing on mental health to ensure better access, experiences, and outcomes for Black people in southeast London. Together, we will share learning across both programmes and shape a collective vision for care that is rooted in community priorities.
What to expect
This is not another listening session. This is about co-creating a shared direction for change, rooted in community knowledge and lived experience.
During this interactive session, we will:
· Imagine and describe what affirming mental health care looks and feels like for Black communities in southeast London
· Work together to map out how we get from where we are now to that vision—including the changes, actions, and partnerships needed
· Identify practical ideas that could be developed further and funded as next steps
· Share insights and learning across the Black maternal health and Black mental health programmes
Who should attend?
· Individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges
· Community leaders and advocates
· Healthcare professionals and commissioners
· Anyone passionate about building affirming mental health care for Black communities in southeast London
We offer compensation for community participants attending in a personal capacity (for example, people with lived experience, carers, and community advocates). NHS staff and those attending as part of their paid role are not eligible. More information will be available shortly.
Get involved
This workshop is part of a wider programme of funded, community-driven change—bringing together people across maternal health and mental health to build something joined-up, affirming, and led by what Black communities say is needed. Join us and be part of shaping the future.
