About this Event
Join us for Black Women do Ballet, a feel-good, beginner-friendly class hosted by Pointe Black. Expect clear guidance, supportive vibes, and a space where you can explore ballet technique at your own pace. We’ll cover the foundations - no previous dance experience needed!
This class is about confidence, community and joy as much as it is about technique. Come to move, learn and feel good!
The event will take place in a central London venue. All attendees will recieve a goodie bag.
What to Bring/Wear
- Comfortable fitted activewear or ballet-friendly clothes (leggings, vest or tee). Pointe Black have 'no pink' policy in their classes - you can wear Black or skin coloured ballet wear or gym socks.

- Water bottle and small towel
Ruth Essel aka The Curvie Ballerina is the Founding Director of Pointe Black - an award winning Black ballet company campaigning for racial equity in the arts. After dealing with microaggressions and overt racism in her career as a dancer for over 20 years, she took a vow to help people experience a different dance world to the one she did.
Ruth is highly passionate about wellbeing and parity of esteem, being a mental health survivor and research psychologist - this is the basis of the nurturing ballet studio she has created. She specialises in making ballet a culturally safe space for her people, looking at the human first.
