Beyond Substance Use Disorder

In formal treatment of mental health conditions and substance use disorders, skilled professionals may be generally aware that co-occurring conditions may reveal themselves. Those seeking relief from one symptom group may have others that impact the quality of life and present themselves alongside the primary condition or reveal themselves when addressing the primary symptoms.

Clinicians largely stand to benefit from an update in current presentations of other compulsive behaviors or process / behavioral addictions. In this advanced-level training, participants will review features of co-morbid gambling disorder, internet gaming disorder, compulsive sexual behavior, and binge eating disorder, be introduced to psychometric tools to evaluate these conditions, and gain a deeper appreciation for how the relationships between these co-occurring compulsive behaviors can help guide treatment interventions.
