Spend a relaxed and immersive session exploring the art of oil painting, with a focus on capturing the movement and atmosphere of the sea.Led by local artist Jane Peacock, this workshop offers a gentle introduction to painting seascapes, while leaving plenty of space for your own interpretation. Whether you’re drawn to wide open skies, shifting water, or the quiet drama of a coastal scene, you’ll be encouraged to create something that feels personal to you.
Jane is a thoughtful and highly experienced teacher, known for her ability to support both complete beginners and those with some experience. Her sessions are always a joy to be part of — a space where confidence grows naturally, and where the diversity of each person’s work is celebrated.
During the workshop, you’ll be guided through the fundamentals of oil painting, from understanding materials and how to use them, to mixing colour and building a balanced composition. There will be time to explore, ask questions, and develop your painting at your own pace, with gentle guidance throughout.
You’re welcome to bring along your own reference images, whether that’s a favourite stretch of coastline or a scene that holds meaning for you. Equally, you can work more intuitively, allowing your painting to emerge as you go.
This is a calm and creative session, designed to help you feel at ease with oil paints and enjoy the process of building a landscape on canvas. By the end, you’ll leave with your own finished piece, along with new skills and a deeper connection to your creative practice.
Jane’s own work is inspired by the landscapes of the Chiltern Hills, where she lives and works, and her approach brings a quiet sensitivity to the natural world that gently informs her teaching.
