Malavika Sarukkai—Impulse to Create
Beeja—Earth Seed—germinated and evolved as a response to the hard fact that in the last 50 years—in my lifetime—Planet Earth has been exploited to dangerous levels to serve the ideas of economic growth.
Tired of storylines mainly from the human perspective, my creative impulse was to centre stage subaltern voices—the tree, the deer and the swan, and explore universal emotions that form the network of all life. Immersed in a lifetime of dance, dance is the language of my expression.
Beeja—Earth Seed is at once an affirmation of the beauty and generosity of Planet Earth and a wake-up call to humanity.
