This half-day course for women professionals examines techniques and gives practical advice for getting the best out of panel discussion opportunities. Panel discussions are an integral part of industry event programmes, whether as part of a larger conference or the central component of smaller events. They provide an excellent opportunity to raise your profile in the industry. The course is limited to 12 participants to ensure time for all to practice.


The course will cover the following topics:

  • What to expect from panel discussions and how to prepare for them including delivering core messages and handling difficult questions
  • The psychology of panel discussions and how to get your share of air-time and handle the on-stage dynamics
  • Key principles of effective communication and message delivery
  • Putting theory into practice with mock panel discussions

On completion of the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the dynamics of the panel discussion format and how to prepare for them
  • Contribute to panel discussions with interesting content while conveying key messages
  • Increase their personal effectiveness on stage as a panellist


Who should attend the course?

This course is designed for women professionals from the built environment industry who already have some experience of panel discussions as well as those who are new to it. This training is particularly relevant for women professionals who are part of the Diversity Talks Real Estate speaker platform nd want to expand their skills, or those looking to gain experience and confidence in public speaking before featuring in the network.

Who is running the course?


Mark Dailey, Partner, Madano

Mark leads Madano’s coaching and training business, designing programmes to help companies manage complex change, improve engagement and productivity, and strengthen communications. He also advises firms on strategy, corporate positioning and internal communications.

Before joining Madano in 2011, Mark was head of corporate affairs at Standard Chartered Wholesale Banking and held similar roles in London at Credit Suisse Asset Management, GAM and JPMorgan Asset Management. Head of Communications for four banks, worked for the Hong Kong Trade Development Council over the handover and was a journalist and newsreader for 12 years.

Before his banking career, he held a senior comms position during the handover in Hong Kong with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and had an 11-year career in television with TVB in Hong Kong and CBC TV in Canada.


Andrea Carpenter, Co-founder and Director, Diversity Talks Real Estate and Women Talk Real Estate

Andrea Carpenter is Co-Founder and Director of Diversity Talks Real Estate, and a writer and communications consultant in the property industry.

As a Director of Diversity Talks Real Estate, Andrea helps raise the visibility of under-represented groups in the industry through the stage and media. This includes training and other women-led initiatives through DTRE’s Women Talk Real Estate community.

On the writing side, her book about the history of the modern European property industry, High Rise and Fall, was published by Routledge in September 2018.

Andrea began her career as a journalist at Property Week before moving on to be editor of EuroProperty for seven years. Following this she worked for various industry bodies including the Urban Land Institute, INREV in Amsterdam, and its sister organisation ANREV in Hong Kong. On returning to the UK, she worked as Head of Marketing and Communications EMEA at CBRE Global Investors.

What's the refund policy?

Becoming an expert panellist course is designed for 12 people to ensure the best results and time for all to practice. As such we can offer the following cancellation policy:

A full refund will be issued for cancellations received no less than 7 days prior to the start of the event.

Refunds will not be issued for cancellation requests received less than 7 days prior to the start of the event.

You can transfer your place free of charge to a colleague/peer at any point whilst the registration is open.

All cancellations/transfers must be done through Eventbrite.

No, you do not need to bring anything with you as we will have your details from the registration process.
