BASEMENT BERLIN replaces the Basement Research project, featuring Berlin-based musicians of various generations aged 20 to 67. Basement Research was Gebhard Ullmann's main New York project for the Soul Note/Black Saint label for 30 years. It was founded in 1993 on the recommendation of pianist Paul Bley, together with legendary producer Giovanni Bonandrini, and released eight CDs, six of which reached the year-end best-of list of the US magazine Downbeat in their respective years.

BASEMENT BERLIN ersetzt das Basement Research Projekt mit Berliner Musikern und -innen aus verschiedenen Generationen im Alter von 20 - 67 Jahren. Basement Research war 30 Jahre das New Yorker Hauptprojekt von Gebhard Ullmann für das Label Soul Note/Black Saint. Es ist 1993 auf Empfehlung des Pianisten Paul Bley zusammen mit dem legendären Produzenten Giovanni Bonandrini entstanden und hat 8 CDs veröffentlicht von denen 6 in den jeweiligen Jahren die Jahresbestenliste des US-Magazins Downbeat erreichten.
