This trio exudes the spirit of the Barrelhouse: a rowdy blues bar where anything can happen. Raucous drinking songs sit alongside the group’s original creations with Jessie’s gospel-tinged grooves, Bill’s impressionistic Australian gems and Lucky’s song romps and ruminations, occasionally including a Jessie’s deep version of Lucky’s song, ‘The Bell.‘
A Barrelhouse show is an invitation to come together and contemplate the mysteries and wonders of life through song. Barrelhouse first rolled onto the stage in 2019 with ‘The Piano Has Been Drinking,’ which featured the exceptional blues piano of Paul Gioia. But that show was to be Paul's final musical triumph. His boisterous piano and gospel depth were irreplaceable so Jessie, Lucky and Bill decided to carry on without a piano and add their own songs, which honour Paul’s indomitable warmth, intelligence and playfulness of spirit.
So let’s raise our whiskey glasses and toast another night together on Planet Barrelhouse!
