Stjörnu Sævar tekur vel á móti krökkum á öllum aldri og fjölskyldum þeirra og fræðir um sólmyrkva, en almyrkvi mun leggjast yfir vesturhluta landsins á komandi sumri. Á eftir fræðslustundinni býður safnkennari gestum að fylgja sér inn á grunnsýningu safnsins að leita uppi stjörnur, sólir og mána 🌙✨
Þann 12. ágúst 2026 upplifa Íslendingar almyrkva á sólu í fyrsta sinn síðan 1954. Frá landnámi hefur alskuggi tunglsins tólf sinnum snert landið og stundum skotið fólki skelk í bringu. Af hverju óttaðist fólk sólmyrkva? Hvenær lærðum við að ekkert var að óttast, heldur að þeir væru aðeins fallegri og stórmerkilegir. Í fræðslustundinni verður fjallað á hressandi hátt um sólmyrkva í fortíð og framtíð. Þátttakendur fá að skoða sólina með sólarsjónaukum ef vel viðrar ☀️
Sævar Helgi Bragason er dagskrárgerðarmaður í sjónvarpi og útvarpi, rithöfundur og vísindamiðlari. Hann hefur hlotið ýmis verðlaun fyrir framúrskarandi vísindamiðlun og líka íslenskuviðurkenningu frá Íslenskri málnefnd.
Enginn aðgangseyrir er fyrir börn að 18 ára. Aðgöngumiði í safnið gildir fyrir fullorðna á viðburðinn. Athugið að aðgöngumiði jafngildir árskorti í safnið.

Hungry dragons og starving wolves - Why did the people of the past fear eclipses? 🐉🐺
Star-Sævar welcomes kids of all ages and their families and teaches about solar eclipses, but a total eclipse is expected over the western part of the country this coming summer. After the educational session, the museum's educator invites guests to follow her into the museum's main exhibition to look for stars, suns and moons 🌙✨
On August 12, 2026, Icelanders will experience a total solar eclipse for the first time since 1954. Since the settlement, the moon's shadow has touched the country twelve times and sometimes sent shivers down people's spines. Why did people fear solar eclipses? When did we learn that there was nothing to fear, but that they were just more beautiful and magnificent. During the educational session, guests will explore solar eclipses in the past and future. Participants will be able to view the sun with solar telescopes if the weather is good ☀️
Sævar Helgi Bragason is a television and radio presenter, writer and science communicator. He has received various awards for outstanding science communication and also an Icelandic language recognition from the Icelandic Language Committee.

There is no admission fee for children under 18 years of age. A museum ticket is valid for adults at the event. Please note that an admission ticket is equivalent to an annual pass to the museum.
