About this Event
For his first solo exhibition in the UK, Gabriel will present a four-channel video installation portraying the conversations of two animated ghosts: arguing, reconciling and singing laments. Blending wry, ironic humour with overt melodrama, the dialogue combines autobiographical fragments from Gabriel’s own life with broader topics such as climate change and anxieties around a digitally dominated future. Each of the roughly two-minute films in Bardo Loops features spectres caught in limbo, trapped in circular arguments they can never resolve. Gabriel’s dystopian films reflect our contemporary world: despite the multiple catastrophes reverberating around us (political backlash, ecological crisis, the rise of AI technologies) many of us remain blissfully unaware.
