For photographers of all levels curious about analogue: learn camera basics, film processing, and darkroom skills.
About this Event

This workshop is intended for photographers at all levels who are curious about the analogue process, from basic camera techniques and film processing to getting comfortable in the darkroom. Working with 35mm manual cameras and black-and-white film, instructor Joel Rodriguez will go over how to load and expose film (through both internal and spot light metering techniques), understand the different film chemistry needed to process negatives, and create contact sheet enlargements.

This course sets a foundation to begin an analogue journey in a hands-on and experiential environment. No analogue photography experience is required, and all materials will be provided. Bring a 35mm film camera if available; otherwise, please indicate in the registration form whether one will be needed.

Bio

Joel Rodriguez is a documentary photographer and visual artist whose work often focuses on the tangibility of memory through the analogue medium. His most recent solo show, Delicate is Difficult, looks back at nearly a decade of image-making by re-interpreting the act of remembering using photography as both a foundation and medium for intervention. His darkroom enlargements are pierced and embellished with coloured embroidery floss, bridging the gap between what is remembered and what is felt. Rodriguez holds a BFA in Film Production from York University, and has exhibited his work at Arts Etobicoke, Latcham Arts Centre, Gallery 44, Nuit Blanche, and CONTACT Photography Festival.
