January 20th Schedule:7:00 - 7:30 - Member meeting | BEPC Business
7:30 - 8:30 - Haley Brown of Inspire Breath Therapy
8:30 - close - Socializing
About the event:
Based on her practice at Inspire Breath Therapy, Haley will review the techniques she facilitates. They are rooted in the ancient practice of pranayama, which translates to “energy restraint or control”. For endurance athletes, like paddlers, she focus on exercises that 1) increase oxygen efficiency and CO2 tolerance, 2) teach athletes how to balance their sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems to prepare for and recover from races and 3) when appropriate, use guided visualization combined with breathwork to overcome pre-race jitters or self-sabotaging thoughts. Combining rhythmic breathing, prolonged breath holds, and carefully selected music, her sessions prime practitioners for enhanced physical and mental performance. She will review these techniques and teach us how they can help improve our paddling and our lives.
About the speaker:
Haley is a certified SOMA Breath Instructor and is trained in trauma-informed care. She is currently pursuing her SOMA Breath Advanced Instructor certification, which focuses on the art of Neurosomatic Programming (NSP), a powerful transformational meditation technique that emphasizes the breath as a bridge between the body and the brain. In her spare time, Haley can be found on the water, going for long paddles on her SUP board, running the slalom water ski course and wing foiling. A trained opera singer, Haley also enjoys attending concerts and producing her own music (some pieces may even appear in her sessions!).
