About this Event
Discover the badass women who built New York City.
From hotel dining rooms where women quietly reinvented journalism, to libraries guarded by muses and masterminds, to streets where women fought for labour rights, education, public health, and cultural power, Manhattan is full of women’s stories that rarely make it into the official history books — and far too few people know.
This walk takes you from the Grand Central Terminal to Bryant Park, the New York Public Library, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and into Central Park, uncovering how women shaped the city’s politics, media, arts, finance, activism, and public life. Along the way you’ll trace a suffrage march led by a woman who couldn’t vote, meet the model behind some of New York’s most famous statues, stand where sanitation workers and police leaders challenged what women were “allowed” to do, and explore how theatres, libraries, and public spaces became sites of quiet — and not so quiet — rebellion.
It’s a completely new way to see the city.
She Shapes History x Wanderful: Limited Edition Pop-Up Series
For the month of March and into April, She Shapes History and Wanderful are joining forces for a special limited-edition pop-up series celebrating women’s impact—past, present, and future. Together, we’re creating meaningful experiences that spotlight the stories we’ve forgotten, elevate the voices shaping our world today, and bring communities together through connection, curiosity, and joy. This partnership is designed to spark conversation, inspire action, and make women’s contributions impossible to overlook.
About She Shapes History
She Shapes History is rewriting the narrative of who built Australia. In a country where only 4% of public statues are of women, their work sheds light on the countless female pioneers whose contributions have long been overlooked—from the architects behind our cities to the innovators behind national icons. Through walking tours, digital storytelling, and collaborations with cultural institutions, She Shapes History makes women’s stories unforgettable. Since 2021, nearly 10,000 people have joined their tours, their digital content reaches more than 250,000 people monthly, and their feminist travel guide takes readers on a road trip across Australia’s hidden herstories. When we can see the women who shaped history, we can see how we can shape it, too.
About Wanderful
Women make an estimated 85% of travel decisions worldwide — yet the travel industry has rarely been built with them in mind. Wanderful exists to change that. As a global community with a thriving membership network, Wanderful connects women around the world through local chapters, engaging events, and curated group trips designed to help women explore the world together with confidence and camaraderie. Our initiatives — from the WITS Travel Creator Summit to the Bessie Awards and Wanderfest — uplift women’s voices, celebrate their leadership, and reshape who gets represented in travel. By championing equity, representation, and authentic connection, Wanderful is building a world where all women can wander, belong, and lead. Learn more at www.sheswanderful.com.
