About this Event

Join us for a celebratory late opening marking the exhibition launch of The Auzoux Project at the Whipple Museum. Over the past six months, artist Anna Brownsted and our Whipple Scribble community have been co-creating a takeover of our Victorian Parlour, inspired by the incredible papier-mache models of Dr Louis Auzoux. Experience the installation up close and explore the Museum after-hours with a glass of wine.

Plus, expect a Whipple Scribble special sketching session, drawing from an eclectic mix of Auzoux teaching models brought out from the Whipple’s stores for one night only!

What’s happening on the night:

6.00pm - In conversation with artist Anna BrownstedAnna Brownsted introduces The Auzoux Project, reflecting on the workshops, the making process, and the resulting installation.

7.00pm & 7.30pm - Whipple Scribble: Speed Sketching Sessions (Learning Gallery)A fast-paced sketching session featuring Dr Louis Auzoux’s teaching models, specially brought out from the Whipple’s collection stores for the evening.

Each session will run as a timed speed round, with 5 minutes per object, encouraging quick observation and experimental drawing. Two sessions will take place at 7.00pm and 7.30pm, with limited capacity (up to 15 sketchers per session).

Expect an eclectic mix of models to draw, from a horse fetlock and human anatomy to pea plants, acorns, silkworms, and an oversized cockchafer beetle (may bug).

Each session begins with a short introduction to Auzoux’s work and teaching models by Annie James of the Whipple Museum, followed by open sketching.

Throughout the evening, attendees are also welcome to sketch freely in all open galleries.

Tickets: Free, with donations warmly welcomed

Although tickets are free, donations play a vital role in supporting Whipple Scribble and our programme of after-hours events. Your support helps us sustain public activities at the Whipple Museum and improve the experience for all visitors.
