About this Event
Audio-Collage Workshop with Dr. Henry McPherson
In this workshop, Henry will guide us through different ways of thinking about listening, audio, attention, and our relationship with sound and sonic media. We will consider some improvisational listening methodologies to explore our entangled relationship with multiple agencies, environments, and other actors, and consider how these relationships might come together in concrete forms such as audio collage and audio essay.
After giving an introduction into the theory of acoustic ecologies, Henry will take us outside of the Ellen Wilkinson Building and onto the University of Manchester campus. We will record sounds from our environment, before returning intside to edit our recordings into sound-collages.

About the Facilitator:
Henry is a composer, improviser, artist, and researcher from Herefordshire (UK). His portfolio explores creative relationships with the natural world through sound, movement, and visual media. Often, Henry's work is focused on plant ecologies and the sights and sounds of woodland and coastal ecosystems. His developing approach to ‘ecological improvisation’ aims to cultivate inclusive listening and interspecies empathy in and through performance. You can read more about his work here.
