A 1-day workshop for mental health professionals on assessing suicide risk, planning treatment, and managing the care of those at risk.
About this Event

Suicidal behavior is a major cause of death and disability in the United States. Over 30,000 people die by suicide each year, the equivalent of one major airliner filled with passengers crashing every two days. Hundreds of thousands of people are treated in hospital emergency departments each year following a suicide attempt.

A significant proportion of people who die by suicide have had recent contact with a mental health professional. However, many providers are inadequately trained to assess, treat, and manage suicidal patients or clients.

Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR) was designed to address the training gap. It teaches essential core competencies that meet the needs of an entire spectrum of mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed counselors, social workers, and employee assistance professionals.

Training includes: 6.5 hours of training, in a mix of lecture, paired practice, written exercises, and video modeling, an engaging and stimulating participant manual, including bibliographies for each of the five major sections, post-workshop access to additional resources on a web page exclusively for AMSR participants and trainers.

Who should attend? Professionals working in outpatient settings who conduct suicide risk assessments, primarily those with a master’s degree or above.

Cost? $50.00/per person (includes training manual). Credit cards or checks accepted (Checks can be made and sent to Hope Network - 3075 Orchard Vista Dr. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49546)

Time? 9:00am-4:30pm. There will be a one-hour lunch break and two short breaks.

Continuing Education? 6.5 CEs available from APA, NY State Board of Social Workers.

Training Expectations:

Although the class is in the form of a webinar, the class expectations for participation and involvement are the same for a live presentation. A participant’s device must have a functioning camera, microphone and speakers; all three must be on during the entire presentation. In addition, the participant must be on screen and visible during the entire presentation.

Please join 5 minutes early to test your audio and video. If you join more than 10 minutes after the training start time or you do not participate in the breakout session, you will not receive credit for the course.

A Zoom Link will be sent to all registered participants one day prior to the date of the training.

For more information or questions, please contact [email protected].

*Our AMSR certified trainers are also available to train on-site at various agencies, universities, etc. If this is an option you are interested in please contact [email protected]
