About this Event
AMSR-Direct Care Training (AMSR-DC) is designed to familiarize you with the AMSR approach and the risk formulation, giving you the understanding and skills to assist in the treatment of those at risk for suicide. You'll learn how you can help identify and support individuals with suicide risk by using the suicide risk identification, assessment, and management competencies taught in the AMSR-Direct Care Outpatient training.
The AMSR-DC Training workshop prepares non-clinical staff working in outpatient care settings to provide confident and empathetic care to patients at risk of suicide. This is a companion training, meant to be used in settings where clinical providers have already attended the AMSR-Outpatient Training and are implementing the AMSR risk formulation.
Training includes:
A half-day of content that includes discussion, role-playing, and video segments. You'll receive an AMSR-DC manual, so you can take with you the information, background, and tips that are covered in the session.
Course Objectives:
- Manage your own reactions to suicide
- Demonstrate compassion for those at risk for suicide and develop a shared perspective
- Ask directly about suicide
- Describe the risk formulation including risk status and risk state
- Use observational skills to detect changes in a patient’s risk state
- Document and verbally report changes in a patient’s risk state according to the AMSR model
- Work as part of the team for safety and treatment planning
Who should attend?
Direct care professionals who work in outpatient treatment settings—such as case managers, care navigators, recovery coaches, direct support professionals, and peer specialists—who understand care plans and risk levels are better able to support patients in care. AMSR-Direct Care Outpatient training ensures that treatment teams of clinicians and direct care staff can speak the same risk assessment and management language to provide consistent, effective care.

Training Expectations:
Although the class is in the form of a webinar, the class expectations for participation and involvement are the same for a live presentation. A participant’s device must have a functioning camera, microphone and speakers; all three must be on during the entire presentation. In addition, the participant must be on screen and visible during the entire presentation.
Please join 5 minutes early to test your audio and video. If you join more than 10 minutes after the training start time or you do not participate in the breakout session, you will not receive credit for the course.
