Maya will be presenting her work followed by a Q&A.
There will also be a 3-course Caribbean supper from Chef Lavern, who will be showcasing a delicious menu for us on 15th May.
Maya Gurung-Russell Campbell
Maya (b. 2000, London, UK) lives and works in London and is currently studying at the Royal Academy Schools, graduating in 2026. She holds a BA in Photography from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, and is a graduate of the Radical Film School. Working across sculpture, image, and text, her practice engages with both national and intimate forms of memory, tracing dominant yet fragile power structures that initially appear immovable.
Maya Gurung-Russell Campbell was selected for Bloomberg's New Contemporaries (2021) and had her first solo show, Folklore Imaginary at 87 Gallery (2022), which was supported by UAL's Mead Award (2022 β 2023) and New Contemporaries. Chef Lavern
Lavern is a talented Caribbean chef who creates unique modern and traditional Caribbean dishes that celebrate bold flavours and comforting classics. Passionate about sharing her culture through food, she brings warmth and creativity to every menu she designs.
For her upcoming dining experience, Lavern will be serving delicious saltfish fritters and fried plantain as a starter β a perfect balance of savoury and sweet Caribbean favourites.
For the main course, guests can enjoy a rich and flavourful brown stew chicken or a hearty brown stew tofu, both served with classic rice and peas, bringing authentic island taste to the table.
To finish, dessert will feature moist banana bread served with cream, offering a comforting and satisfying sweet treat.
Lavernβs cooking blends tradition with a modern twist, creating dishes that feel both nostalgic and exciting. Her goal is to bring people together through vibrant Caribbean cuisine and create memorable dining experiences for all.
