This event is now fully booked. We hope to run it again in early 2025. If you have a ticket, we will look forward to welcoming you on the day.Join our half-day Sashiko workshop focused on the art of strengthening through repair. Sashiko, a traditional Japanese embroidery technique, is renowned for its practical beauty, originally developed to reinforce and mend worn fabric. The event will be led by local artist Nicky Harwood, whose piece 'Parachute' is on display in our 'Planet Ocean' exhibition.
In this workshop, you'll learn the fundamental stitches and techniques of Sashiko, using them to repair and strengthen your own textiles. Discover the satisfaction of turning tears and frays into stunning patterns while preserving the life of your textiles.
Ideal for those interested in sustainable fashion, craft, and the cultural heritage of Japan, this event combines creativity with practical skill.
