Our curation traces the direct mentorship from Frederic Marlett Bell-Smith to John William Beatty, then to Doris McCarthy, and finally to Kazuo Nakamura. Each artist was taught and inspired by the previous, passing down techniques, ideas, and a shared commitment to Canadian art through generations at the Ontario College of Art.

Frederic Marlett Bell-Smith (1846β1923) β British-born Canadian artist known for evocative landscapes, watercolors, and illustrations.
John William Beatty (1869β1941) β Toronto-born landscape painter and influential art educator.
Doris McCarthy (1910β2010) β Renowned Canadian landscape painter, teacher, and writer, born in Calgary and raised in Toronto.
Kazuo Nakamura (1926β2002) β Pioneering Japanese-Canadian abstract artist and sculptor, born in Vancouver.
