Art of Words: Connecting Through Creativity and Sustainability

Art of Words is an inclusive art-and-language workshop designed to bring together migrants, refugees, and local residents through creativity, communication, and sustainability. Participants learn English in a fun and expressive way — transforming recycled materials and old magazines into unique collages and artworks filled with personal meaning and positive messages for the planet.

This workshop is part of United in Building Resilience — a six-month borough-wide programme celebrating community connection, creativity, and wellbeing. Through shared experiences and creative collaboration, the programme empowers people of all backgrounds to build confidence, form friendships, and strengthen a collective sense of belonging in Barking and Dagenham.

At Art of Words, everyone becomes both artist and storyteller — learning, laughing, and creating together in a welcoming space where language and art unite to inspire change and connection.
