About the Film
A retired legal counselor begins writing a novel in the hope of finding closure — not only for a haunting, unresolved homicide case from his past, but also for the unspoken love he once held for his superior. Decades later, both wounds remain open, and through his writing he attempts to confront the shadows of memory, loss, and desire.
El secreto de sus ojos is a 2009 Argentine–Spanish crime drama directed, produced, and edited by Juan José Campanella, from a screenplay by Campanella and Eduardo Sacheri, based on Sacheri’s 2005 novel La pregunta de sus ojos. Starring Ricardo Darín, Soledad Villamil, Pablo Rago, Javier Godino, and Guillermo Francella, the film intertwines a gripping M**der mystery with a poignant meditation on justice, memory, and unfulfilled love.
Celebrated worldwide for its taut screenplay, evocative direction, and powerful performances, the film won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 82nd Oscars and the Goya Award for Best Spanish-Language Foreign Film. It also grossed over $34 million globally, becoming the second highest-grossing Argentine film of all time, behind Nazareno Cruz and the Wolf (1975).
