About this Event
Taking place on Earth Day, the O.A.K. Talks (Origin, Architecture, Knowledge) event brings together experienced voices from design and manufacturing. We’ll talk about how to choose materials wisely, avoid greenwashing, balance cost and sustainability, and build trusted relationships between suppliers and designers.
Hosted at the Ecohardwood showroom in West London, the evening combines a panel discussion with time to network, meet other professionals, and continue the conversation in a relaxed setting.
Meet the Speakers
Miriam Prada brings a dual perspective to design, combining technical expertise with a refined interior sensibility. She works with high-end homeowners and developers to create timeless interiors that enhance both lifestyle and long-term property value.
With over 15 years of experience, Miriam specialises in prime and super-prime residential projects. Her portfolio includes interiors for a record-breaking penthouse sale in Westminster, as well as work with private clients and high-net-worth individuals.
As a former forester, Giedrius developed a deep understanding of oak - its character, its value, and the responsibility that comes with using it. Nearly 30 years ago, he brought that knowledge into manufacturing, long before sustainability became a focus in the industry.
Today, Giedrius leads Ecowood, an internationally recognised company with showrooms across Europe, including Ecohardwood in West London. At its core is a state-of-the-art production facility in Lithuania, with over 400 skilled professionals crafting oak floors, doors, staircases, walls, and other oak products. His approach remains the same: respect the material, focus on quality and longevity, and create products that are beautiful and made to last.
KATIE MALIK - FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR, KATIE MALIK DESIGN STUDIO
Katie Malik’s journey into design was shaped early on by a deep-rooted passion for remodelling, inspired by her father’s craftsmanship. After studying at Chelsea College of Art, the University of Cambridge, and the National Design Academy, she gained experience in high-end London studios before establishing her own practice in 2014.
Since then, the studio has received multiple industry recognitions, including seven UK Property Awards, and has been shortlisted for prestigious accolades such as Grand Designs Live and the SBID Awards.
Beyond her design work, Katie is deeply committed to education and mentorship. In 2024, she founded Interior Design Deconstructed, a platform supporting emerging designers in building and growing their businesses.
Sustainability and social impact are central to her practice. Katie prioritises ethical sourcing and actively supports ShelterBox, a charity providing emergency aid to displaced families worldwide.
A Dialogue for a Changing Industry
O.A.K. Talks is the first event in a new series exploring responsibility, craft, knowledge, and decision-making in today’s design industry.
This is not only about sustainability - it’s about understanding oak and wood products in practice. From flooring grades and natural wood variations to doors, stairs, finishes, durability, and performance, the conversation will focus on what really matters when specifying and working with timber.
From sourcing to installation and final delivery, the event looks at how architects, designers, and makers can stay focused, make informed decisions, and balance aesthetics, practicality, and long-term value.
In a world of endless options, the message is simple: better choices begin with better understanding.
