FilmBerlin-Premiere: MONA MUR IN CONVERSATION
D 2024 Director: Dietmar Post
Mona Mur, born in Hamburg, started as a protagonist of the German underground of the early 1980s, but always flirted with pop with a capital P. In her career, she has traversed many musical territories, from post-punk/industrial to electronic music, from piano-based punk torch songs to hard, experimental guitar music - all with her own signature. Her most important collaborations: En Esch (KMFDM), FM Einheit, Mark Chung, Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten),Nikko Weidemann, Dieter Meier (Yello), J.J. Burnel and Dave Greenfield (Stranglers), Ralf Goldkind, filmmakers Monika Treut, Elfi Mikesch, Fatih Akin, photographer Ilse Ruppert, but also the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mona Mur also works as a composer and sound artist for films and computer games. Her early albums have now been re-released - a good opportunity to dive deep into her previous oeuvre. And so Mona Mur answers questions from filmmaker Dietmar Post in a crystal-clear setting. Richly illustrated with photos as well as film and music video excerpts, the result is an illustrious oral history biography that straightforwardly describes what it means to be an artist, to pursue one's own ideas in the music business and to overcome resistance.
Concert
"Les Chansons Brutales" - Mona Mur with Johannes Roloff, piano, and Gary Schmalzl, electric guitar (Geschwister Pfister, Bela B., Thurston Moore)
For the first time live in her new Trio line-up, Mona Mur presents LES CHANSONS BRUTALES - a dark blue sparkling live program consisting of unreleased special versions of songs mainly off her notorious orchestral opus magnum WARSAW as well as her solo albums DELINQUENT and LES CHANSONS BRUTALES with exclusive lyrics by “Radical Eye” poet Miron Zownir.
Together with her exquisite musicians, Johannes Roloff and his virtuoso piano play and guitar master Gary Schmalzl, they forge a darkly romantic sound, a surreal, elegic, cinematic painting - as cruel as life, as tender as the night.
An evening organised by play loud! productions, Soundwatch Music Film Festival Berlin and Mona Mur.
