About this Event
Join Toronto-based artist duo Julia Jamrozik and Coryn Kempster in free community art workshops to create "Matching", their giant public art installation for the World Cup. All workshops will be held at The Bentway Studio (55 Fort York Blvd). Meet the artists, mingle, and take part in this cool experience!
“Matching” is a large, temporary outdoor art installation that celebrates the many fans of the World Cup and the community that is hosting the celebration. Thousands of strands of barrier tape come together to form a distinctive canopy of colourful bands, referencing the flags of the many countries competing in the matches of the World Cup. Simultaneously drawing attention to our differences, the colours more importantly embrace our many similarities. For example, the flags of roughly half the teams share red in common, and while Canada cheers on red-and-white, this pairing also represents at least five other participating nations.
This initiative is led by CityPlace and Fort York BIA and supported by the City of Toronto through the Community Celebration Support Fund.
