About this Event

A Series of Workshops - Back to the Roots of Diaspora Life

Over the winter and spring of 2023-24, Sonya will be facilitating several workshops focused on honouring the transgenerational families and communities of the Diaspora. We will explore the transgenerational lives of our maternal and paternal lines. We will create space to explore their journeys from there to here, what they found when they arrived, the obstacles that they faced and the strengths in the family line that helped them to move through challenging times.

Each workshop will be created around one theme.

In December 2023 we will look at The Tears of our Mothers. Yes there was pain, great struggle and toil, the saying ‘a woman’s work is never done’ was fitting for many generations of women, but there was also joy and love and solace in family life.

In March 2024 we will look at The Fears of our Fathers. They often came first and created the space for family to come later. Sometimes they did not return and the family wondered what had happened. Often they struggled through oppressive and discriminatory societal practices

In May 2024 we will look at Siblings here and Siblings there, those who came before and those who came after and everything that happened to them in-between places. And we can ask questions about what influences remain for future generations of siblings.

Overview of Ancestral Constellations Workshops

Many of the past workshops have brought the children of the Diaspora, who wanted to look at their place of identity and belonging in the UK, Europe and Western societies. These children's parents came from the Caribbean, from India and the wider Asian continent and Africa. Later the second, third and fourth generations began to explore their current family system, wanting to learn from past transgenerational lives.

During the workshops, we will look wider at our communities through healing constellation rituals, that look at societal pressures on Diaspora family life, then and now! In a time of great change, we cannot forget where we have come from and what our children and our children's, children need and want from the future. Together we can look at the past, its influence on the present, and what the ancestral line can tell us about the potential for the future.

What You Can Expect from a Workshop

To those new to transgenerational work and family constellations work in particular, there will be the opportunity to explore a deep healing process, one that energises and can soothe current family dilemmas, by exploring where these issues may have come from in the past.

For those who have worked with this modality before, it is a chance to come again, to support others in a gathering of like-minded people and to explore your ancestral transgenerational line further. We will work with the issues that are presented on the day from within the group.

Some constellations may be generated from a group member, others we may co-create, either way, we will all be working on our transgenerational issues together, listening to the whispers of our ancestors and building on their resilience and message of support to help guide the family line towards health and healing.

Donating as the Exchange of Giving and Receiving

These gatherings aim to be accessible to as many people as possible. At the same time giving and receiving payment for a service offered is important in constellations work. For that reason, tickets are free at the point of sale, with a guide price for donation. Be thoughtful and give what you can, some more and others less, the result will be an equal exchange. Thank you
