The Midwest Film Festival (MFF), in collaboration with Cinema Luz, is excited to once again host Analog Shorts Night on Monday, September 30th at The Gene Siskel Film Center.
This special event will feature a series of outstanding analog films, each shot entirely on film stock. The evening will celebrate the artistry and craftsmanship unique to analog filmmaking, a medium that is seeing a resurgence in the film community. Attendees will have the opportunity to view these nostalgic yet demanding works and appreciate the dedication and talent of their creators.
Highlights of the night will include screenings of notable short films, appearances by acclaimed directors, and a panel discussion on the resurgence and future of analog film. [Note: Digital Projection]
6:30 pm - Networking Reception
Welcome to the show! Or rather… a pre-show networking hour where guests can casually arrive and mix it up with other attendees including Community Spotlight featured guests and filmmakers in attendance. For anyone in the business, this is a great way to mix it up and get to know fellow industry professionals. For anyone not, it’s a perfect time to meet others, relax and get ready for an amazing night. Be sure to visit concessions ahead of the program!
7:30 pm - Community Spotlight
MFF Director of Operations, NK Gutiérrez, sits down this month with Lua Borges of Cinema Luz for an intimate conversation regarding the organization’s work to expand the availability of resources for analog filmmakers, and how platforming these artists is essential to the community at large. You won’t want to miss this chance to gain valuable insight on the progression of this medium.
7:55 pm - Screening
The nine films featured this month are a showcase of the impact screening celluloid films can have on a captive theater audience. Cinema returns to its roots. From the heartbreaking to hilarious, these shorts will enthrall our audience with their unique stories while lurking in the familiar, even nostalgic, because of their unique productions.
9:45 pm - Filmmaker Q&A
Stay for a post show discussion with the creators behind the work to learn more about their films and creative processes. Lua Borges of Cinema Luz will lead this thoughtful discussion along with an audience Q&A.
10:30 pm - After Party
Truly the best way to keep the conversations going is to walk over with us to the After Party at Emerald Loop Bar & Grill! Located nearby at 216 N. Wabash Ave., stop in, grab some lite appetizers provided by us, and enjoy some late night food and beverages.
