All are welcome to join us in celebrating the amazing volunteers and residents of our local communities, and the launch of our new project.
About this Event

Everyone is welcome to come out to our Anacostia Volunteer Appreciation Party at the Go-Go Museum & Cafe for an afternoon of live music, refreshments, and celebration as we honor our amazing volunteers and the communities we take part in! This is also a great opportunity to explore the history of Go-Go music through their interactive exhibits.

Co-hosted by Freinds of the National Arboretum, Ward 8 Woods, Anacostia Riverkeeper, City Blossoms, DC Greens/The Well at Oxon Run, Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, and many more organizations represented in our work, we are celebrating our collective volunteer community and all of their hard work and dedication over the year. We invite everyone, whether you have volunteered or not, to come take park in this event and learn more about the various volunteer programs and how you can get involved next year!

Schedule

  • From 1 to 2 PM, we will gather, mingle, enjoy refreshments, explore the interactive exhibits of the museum, showcasing the history and impact of Go-Go music, and you will get a chance to learn about the various organizations taking part in this event.
  • From 2 to 3 PM, we will have live Go-Go music from The Experience Band & Show in the outdoor Secret Garden backyard space (please come prepared for the weather!).
  • From 3 to 4 PM, we will share our new project (details below), recognize our most dedicated volunteers, and each organization will share highlights from the year.
  • At 4 PM the event will officially end, but you are welcome to stay and check out more of the museum until they close at 6 PM, as we have covered admission costs.

We are excited to launch a project all of our organizations have been collaborating on... the Anacostia River Outdoor Volunteer Trail!! All attendees will receive a poster displaying the vibrant outdoor volunteer and recreation scene in the Anacostia River area (sneak peak below), and preview the 2nd part of this project coming in the Spring! Don't miss out!

It wouldn't be a volunteer recognition party without a little bit of volunteering beforehand! of the area around the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, lead by Ward 8 Woods Conservancy. New volunteers will receive a $50 stipend gift card for participating.

Come join us for a day packed full of fun and community care. Mingle with fellow volunteers/community members, dance to live go-go music, and indulge in delicious refreshments. Let's close out the volunteer season in style as we show our gratitude for all that you do. See you there!
