About this Event
Join us at ABC's celebratory weekend for a collaboration with Storyhouse Works who proudly presents a joint book event for authors Talia Stone, with her debut literary fiction guidebook Welcome Home Amsterdam, and Paola Bucciol’s children’s book The ABC’s of Amsterdam.
Enjoy the conversation with both authors about their writing process, as they share segments from their books that showcase the beauty and magic of our beloved city of Amsterdam. There will be plenty of time for Q&A and book signing. There’s optional networking drinks across the street afterwards. Moderation by Hannah Huber.
Talia Stone
Writing Coach Talia Stone worked as an editor in TV, film and advertising for over 15 years before focusing on writing. When she’s not hosting storytelling workshops or taking tourists on historic trails through Amsterdam, Talia is creating her own stories.
Welcome Home Amsterdam
Welcome Home Amsterdam is a brand-new collection of short stories based in and around the Dutch capital. From the Golden Age to current times, these twelve fictional tales give a vivid glimpse of the real Amsterdam and shine an unexpected light on the city’s inhabitants: we experience how a remembrance service silences a rowdy student fraternity, how the Anne Frank House affects a woman born to fascist parents and how a young Turkish girl empowers the women in her neighbourhood.
Paola Bucciol
Originally from Italy, Chicago-based Paola was inspired to create the City ABC series back in 2018, when she and her family relocated to the Netherlands. A born explorer and storyteller by trade, she wanted to involve her young sons in the big move. “I realised that by giving them the opportunity to learn ahead of time – by reading and talking about ‘the land of windmills, bikes, and tulips’ – it paved the way for a great adventure that they could help craft. We discovered Amsterdam as a family.”
ABC’s of Amsterdam: a first guide to the capital of the Netherlands
The first in a series of fun city guides, designed with young readers in mind.
