About this Event
Sasha Abramsky is a freelance journalist based in California who works for The Nation, has contributed to The New Yorker Online, The Atlantic and The Guardian, and is the author of eleven books.
His latest, American Carnage, is an examination of Donald Trump's second presidency through the lives of eleven federal workers who lost their jobs as part of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency drive to reduce US government spending by making dramatic cuts to many of the country’s most important agencies.
Usually we hear about American politics through the pronouncements of those in power,. Rarely do we hear about the impact of Trump's presidency on ordinary Americans:
'the far-reaching effects of these layoffs, both on the individuals who lost their jobs and on the millions of Americans who found their access to basic government services curtailed'.
“With a blend of empathetic reporting and scathing analysis, American Carnage lays bare an extraordinary episode in US history—offering a glimpse of a hurricane that now threatens to destroy all in its path.” —Jonathan Freedland
