About this Event
PRFI's Allies in Mental Health series brings together policy makers, community members, and clinical providers to facilitate conversations on effective mental healthcare.
This panel discussion will be a forum to encourage open dialogue around the intersection of intimate partner violence and the child welfare system to find co-constructed solutions between clinicians, child welfare workers, and policy makers.
A large share of the individuals and families served in our mental health clinics have experienced IPV. Many are already more vulnerable to negative systemic impacts as low-income women of color. Our patients who have dealt with or are directly referred by ACS/CPS often tell us that ACS involvement results in their own re-traumatization. By building bridges between direct service providers, advocates and those empowered to make and change policy, we aim to find ways to harness the insights of these different stakeholders to better support-and protect-parents and children impacted by violence in the home.
