About this Event
Hi, it’s me, Alexis Gay! (“who?” don’t worry about it keep reading I’ll tell you!!!) I’m thrilled to be the first to announce: it’s 2026!!! That’s RIGHT! The NEW YEAR HAS BEGUN! And we all know the famous saying about the new year, right??? “New YEAR, new SHOW(S)!!!!” (I think my great-great-grandfather twice removed said that.)
On Tuesday, January 27th, YOU could be among the very first to see fresh-outta-the-oven previews of some of NYC’s most exciting comedians’ new works-in-progress! All of the wonderfully talented comics below will be debuting 10-12 minute previews of the Next Big Show™️ they’re working on this year.
The lineup is stacked:
Shannon Fiedler (comedian, writer and content creator with over 600k followers across social media and names comic to watch at the 2023 New York Comedy Festival)
Ginny Hogan (New Yorker, author of three humor collections, also writes the political newsletter for Betches)
Felipe Torres Medina (writer for Stephen Colbert)
Gary Simons (opener for Mike Birbiglia??? very casual )
Taylor Kay Phillips (has literally one thousand Emmy’s as a writer on Last Week Tonight)
Alexis Gay (me, from earlier—from the beginning of this event description, and also technically The New Yorker, and also the internet, I guess? and I just filmed my solo show at The Bell House, and I’m hosting this little shindig and whatever, come find out what my deal is!!!)
The thing about a beloved solo show or a polished hour of standup comedy is that it starts as one small joke, or maybe one half-baked idea, or maybe the concept of an idea of a joke you could see yourself or someone like yourself considering taking a shot at maybe telling someday in the near or perhaps more distant future. Do you feel me? It starts as practically nothing, is my point. A little seed. But if you treat it well—with some water and sunlight (and coffee, probably, at least in my case) that little seed can grow into something slightly bigger: a 10-12 minute swing, a stab, a take, an attempt, a draft—of your next big thing.
I absolutely love watching new work. It’s a thrill to me to follow along as work grows and matures and evolves over time. Isn’t that one of the coolest parts of living in NYC???? That all of this creative work is being developed all around us, every DAY? I certainly think so but YES OBVIOUSLY I am EXTREMELY BIASED because developing said creative work is MY WHOLE DEAL OH NO I meant to save “my deal” until 1/27, ugh!!!! I hope you decide to join us regardless.
All the best for a wonderful year,
Alexis
