The Denver Local Advisors group of AIA Colorado will be hosting a tour of the historic preservation and restoration to Denver’s infamous Larimer Square on Thursday, October 24th from 4 - 5pm. The event will look at the $20 million-dollar exterior restoration and preservation improvements of the downtown historic 1400 block of Larimer Street between 14th and 15th Streets. Constructed between 1860 and 1880, the block includes 18 historic building facades, containing over 50,000 sq ft of interior space, and pedestrian streetscape.
Associate Architect Brent Carr, Assoc. AIA, member of the Historic Denver and Colorado Archaeological Society Denver Chapter, will conduct a 20-minute overview and a 40-minute tour of the restoration and preservation of the 1400 block of Larimer Square Historic District in downtown Denver. We will meet at the staircase of the Walkway at 1425 Larimer St. and will walk outside from there.
The tour will highlight the $20 million-dollar historic restoration work that was completed in the spring of 2024 by Asana Partners, as coordinated by Perkins & Will, Rowland+Broughton, Civitas, KL&A Engineers, Building Restoration Specialties ,and the Denver Landmark Preservation Commission. We will hear about updates made to portions of the interior space and aging infrastructure systems. Restoration of 18 building facades and fenestration fronting Larimer Street and their rear alleyways, including the over 600 windows that had varying degrees of wood rot and decay, patching and repairs involving 21 tons of stone and masonry, comprehensive Dutchman repairs, and the rehabilitation of roof cornices, flashing and roofing throughout the block. This preservation effort will ensure sustained vitality of the historic block for future generations to come.

Originally saved by preservationist Dana Crawford, Larimer Square became Denver’s first historic district in 1971. The district draws more than 4.5 million people each year. This vibrant destination is home to signature restaurants and boutique retail pedestrian experiences with distinctive commercial office spaces above. Asana Partners purchased Larimer Square in 2020 for approximately $92 million and are committed to keeping it one the most historically accurate, authentic, and exciting blocks in Denver.
