About this Event
We continue with our theme from last year: “Uplifting the African Diaspora through the Cultural Arts.” December's program will focus on Hip Hop and House music. We will feature excerpts from several films that explore this genre. We will also have a panel consisting of scholars, lyricists, DJs, including:
- Amina Ayo Norman-Hawkins, Hip Hop artist, educator, and activist
- DJ Duane Powell, Historian, Ethnomusicologist, and promotor
- Pierre André Evans: House music historian, journalist, DJ
- Scott "Sencere Magnetic" Hammond: Hip Hop artist, graphic artist, and dancer
This will be a hybrid event, and will be held at the Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies and online via Zoom.
