About this Event
The Actor as Creator: “Use what you got” and develop original work!
What if you stopped waiting to be cast and started building your own work?
Led by writers and performers Rachel De Fontes and Peter Jeffries whose fringe-born play Lie Club grew from a small experimental piece into an internationally touring production now heading into screen development, this session explores how actors can create, shape and perform original work.
Whether you are taking your first steps into developing your own work or have plenty of experience creating and are struggling to take the next step, this workshop will help hone your skills and guide you to the next step.
In this workshop, you’ll:
- Learn practical tools to use as creative stimulus and “jumping off points” for writing/devising
- Explore how to write for yourself as an actor
- Turn your ideas into playable, performable material
- Understand how new work moves from fringe-scale to professional production
This is a collaborative, active session with creative exercises and space for discussion.
Ideal for actors who want to:
- Expand beyond audition-based work
- Develop their own projects
- Create opportunities instead of waiting for them
Come ready to move, create and experiment.
What to bring:
- An open mind and collaborative energy/attitude
- We will prompt you with some explorations ahead of the workshop so we have some material to play with together
