About this Event
Free and open registration for a walk in Manhattan on May 23, from 10 AM to 12 AM, with François-Xavier de Vaujany, professor at Université Paris Dauphine-PSL and author of "The Rise of Digital Management : From Industrial Mobilization to Platform Capitalism" (Routledge).
We will move from the former Beekman hotel (place of the historical conference which launched cybernetics) to the villa Albertine where the new statue of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is displayed. François-Xavier de Vaujany will explain how cybernetics emerged and was discussed in New York. He will tell the story of the cybernetics movement in relationship with computers, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and administrative sciences. He will explain how management and digitality, the manus of managers and the obsession for representation, met in New York and in the US at large, from WWII to the cold war. The end of the walk will be a way to offer an alternative to the digitalization of our life: the reverie and letting go defended by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
